Information for Doctors about the Gynefix

Re:  GyneFix

4 July 2010

Dear Colleague,

The GyneFix which you receive now has a different uterine sound and a different inserter tube:

1.    The sound has a smaller tip of 3 mm and then gradually enlarges to a diameter of 4.5 mm, dilating the cervix and thereby making insertion of the applicator easier. The cm marks are better visible so that you can measure the length easily. The small GyneFix is suitable for all normal uterine cavities with soundlength of 8 cm up to 8 ½ cm.
2.    The tube is made of flexible polyethylene and has distinct cm marks. Its tip is slightly curved inwards so that, following sounding you will usually have no resistence at the level of the cervix. The diameter of the tube is 4 mm and its length is 1 mm longer than with the previous inserter resulting in a penetration depth of 9 mm instead of 10 mm. This will limit the risk of perforation. Please apply the tube well against the fundus and use the full penetration depth to ensure proper insertion.

After insertion, I recommend to cut the string at 2 cm and then fold the tail in the cervical canal so that it cannot cause problems to the partner.

If you have questions, please contact me. You can always refer your patients to our website:  www.wildemeersch.com and, if you wish to see the insertion procedure again, go to “video” on the website.
